her class is studying oviparous animals (they lay eggs) this month, and for their science projects, each student had to draw an egg out of a basket that was labeled with an animal. that egg/name would be the oviparous animal they had to do a report & sculpture of. kennedy was very excited that she drew the toucan - one of her favorite birds!
and naturally, i forgot about the project (she told me about it the first week of feb) & then yesterday, she informed me that her project was due TOMORROW!!! oh snarp! and i told her we would make it out of paper mache! double snarp!!!
well, i'm proud to say that we made it work! we did a thin layer of paper/elmers glue & then used painters tape for the rest of the support. and then kennedy painted it all by herself! she did a really good job!!!
and then here's the report she had to do...write down 3 facts about the animal (which she would then present to her class). kennedy of course had to do 4 facts, 3 was not enough.
keel-billed toucan
1. eat fruit, nuts and insects
2. not good fliers - mostly hop
3. beak made of keratin
4. very social - hangs out with friends
this reminds me of all the science projects dad used to help me do...i remember when i had to make a flagellum in 7th grade, other kids made theirs out of clay, playdough...but mine was made out of fiberglass - yeppppp. complete with a leather tail & wooden bead for the nucleus & punched out leather shapes for the mitochondria.
